Some things that I have learned this past year on Substack has been training myself to write consistently and how to work to develop whole thoughts. Im usually prone to start something new but not really finishing. Substack has been a great practice in seeing something and following through. Also learning how to create a vision for something and then add legs to it.

Very well said and I wouldn't be alone to say that you've done well.

I’ve learned that patience and consistency are key to building a following. It’s tempting but we should never chase the trend or write on a topic because we know it’ll get eyeballs.

Amen! I have started to learn that as well. Thanks for sharing!

The consistency one is something I may want to change in the future. I write at least one post a month, but sometimes more. Don’t have a proper schedule yet, and kinda like that flexibility, but may be good someday to get a stricter schedule going.

My struggle is that I write weekly, so with the rest of life intervening, I sometimes struggle to publish on a consistent date and time. I feel like it helps my readers if they know my newsletter will be in their inbox at a certain point. For example, the Front Porch Republic weekly newsletter hits at 6 am on Saturdays and I count on reading it to start my day on Saturdays. I've added a monthly one on the 15th of each month and I've been good about that.

I don't think there any truly perfect ways to do it, though. Every following is built differently.

I agree with having a certain date and time to publish posts. I was consistent for a time but then seasons of life change. So will be looking to establish a new norm. I enjoy reading yours, keep up the good work!

Congrats brotha, and thankful for your faithful writing. I have learned how far I have to go in learning how to communicate the stuff bouncing around in my mind.
