Young man, have you not heard? Have you not heard of the hope of heaven? That glorious country beyond this temporal horizon. Ruled by a King of Kings, whose reign will never end. Where its borders know no war or distress and there is no fear. Did you not know of this? Why treasure the citizenship of this world? What love is there that is so binding to this place. What treasure so valuable that cannot be outdone by Him? Do not love this place for surely it does not care for you. This country needs slaves but His country wants sons.
This week’s post is about the lure of the world. My desire is to encourage young men to wake up and evaluate where their treasure is. Christ says in Matthew 6.21 “Where your treasure there your heart will be also.” I am challenged when I read this verse. Where is my treasure? Where is your treasure? The saints in the Old Testament longed for a country whose founder and builder is God (Hebrews 11.10). We cannot get caught up in merely living for what we can see. But we look ahead and live for hope, the hope of Christ’s return and victory over sin and death! I pray that this post finds you well and that you desire to live for Christ today.
This also makes me think of Paul's instruction to "look up" and expect His appearance while it is day. In keeping our sights on Him, we are less likely to be drawn away or attracted to the things of this life. The cares of this life will choke out the fruit that would have been produced from hearing the Word which does not return void. Guarding the heart is so important because as you alluded to before, the world wants it all.
