Welcome back to The Workbox! If you are here for the first time, welcome! I hope you enjoy what you read. If you are returning, welcome back. Now let's get to work.
One of the things I have been cultivating over the years is a list of resources for the Christian faith. As I stumble across certain things I tuck them into my mental back pocket for later use. These resources, I hope, will prove invaluable as my family grows, in size and in age. They say knowing is half the battle, and maybe having the thing is the other half.
I have been immensely blessed in these recent years in having mentors and friends showing me databases, websites, books, and groups that have grown me in my brief exposure to them, and I pray will grow my family when I share it with them in due time. I will now share them with you.
It has been a hope of mine to one day create a database, an amalgamation of good resources, that can be openly shared with anyone. I think this Substack is a small step towards that. I will endeavor to link everything that I write about. There will also be a brief description of what these links mean. The best way to know about them is to explore them yourself. You can click on each of these titles and take the hyperlink to the website itself.
Without further delay, here are the tools of the trade. Enjoy perusing The Workbox.
Podcasts
SASF is a podcast that explores and explains the relationship of stories to the soul through a Christian Worldview. We are all characters in God's story.
TiL is a podcast through the Association of Christian Biblical Counselors (ACBC). TiL provides brief (30-minute-ish) interviews about a wide variety of counseling topics from a Biblical Counseling perspective - which is different than a Christian Psychologist or Christian psychologist.
This is a podcast with John Piper. Pretty sure there are over 1,000 episodes. They are brief and informative and John Piper usually has great perspective and answers for the questions he receives.
Websites
Canon Press is a group operating out of Moscow, ID. They provide quality content that is presented through a massive variety of mediums. Videos, books, audiobooks, podcasts. This a great resource, their motto is "All of Christ for All of Life."
This is a website created by John Piper. It has several different podcasts and tons of articles that cover a wide range of topics. A good go-to for any random question one may have, and it provides just enough information to be helpful. Not always super deep, but quality.
Videos
This is a video series from the 90's. It is imminently practical and effectively tied to theology. It is a great preparatory series before one becomes a parent. Some things must be heard with discernment but it is an incredibly useful resource that I have personally watched several times. It is semi-difficult to navigate their website, but I will link it all the same. I watched it on DVD but you may be able to find snippets on YouTube.
I have not used this one very much. But it has a ton of content on it. One will have to use discernment in what to watch and how far to take it. But pretty sure you can use it for free via your church access code.
Single, Dating, Engaged, Married
This is a series by Ben Stuart through Passion Church. I highly recommend this for anyone single, dating, engaged, or married. Watch it, or listen to it on Spotify, and then do it again. Great, great, content. I have linked to just the first one in the series, on Singleness. You should be able to navigate from there.
Overall, this makes a good launch point for Christian resources. I know there are dozens and hundreds of others. I will make a follow-up post covering books and apps that have been helpful. Obviously, all of these should be interpreted through the lens of truth - which is the Bible. That is our standard of truth. We must always be cautious of turning these resources into our standard of truth rather than the Word of God. These are meant to be aids, threads that lead us further into the truth.
I pray that you find these helpful. Enjoy learning these tools and becoming proficient in them. If you have questions feel free to ask me.
* I realize that the section for the ACBC TiL is inaccurate. ACBC stands for Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. My apologies. It won’t affect where the hyperlink takes you. Please enjoy!
